SINOSSI

The post “ME CAPTAIN” BY ITALIAN DIRECTOR MATTEO GARRONE OFFICIALLY ON THE SHORTLIST FOR THE OSCARS 2024. THE MOVIE TO BE FETED AT CAPRI DEC. 27. first appeared on Capri Film Festival.

Oscar winner Bobby Moresco will be the chairman of ‘Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival 2023‘ twenty-eighth edition (December 27-January 2, 2024).

The director and screenwriter of ‘Lamborghini’ (currently in Italy working with Andrea Iervolino to prepare the film ‘Maserati’ ) will join President Edwige Fenech on the Blue Island.

Moresco, also the author of cult films such as ‘Crash’, and ‘Million Dollar Baby’, has been very attached to Capri, Hollywood, for years, “just think – recalls Pascal Vicedomini, founder and producer of the kermesse that as a tradition brings stars and the big international film industry to the Bay of Naples in the heart of winter, – that it was at our festival that Moresco met Iervolino and Monica Bacardi (ILBE) who proposed him ‘Bent’ and then a film about Lamborghini, in America as famous as Ferrari. Moreover, Edwige, who has been a supporter of the festival from the very beginning along with personalities such as Lina Wertmuller and Gillo Pontecorvo, will create a pair of ‘hosts’ truly in love with the island and ready to welcome a partner that already promises to be of great interest, committed to supporting the well-deserved Oscar nomination for Matteo Garrone’s ‘Io capitano’.

“Moresco picks up the chairman’s testimonial from cult director Terry Gilliam, who remains on the Capri Institute team with Tony Renis (honorary chairperson), Noa (honorary chairwoman), filmmakers Michael Radford, Shekhar Kapur, Mimmo Calopresti, Enrico Vanzina, and Oscar winners Alessandro Bertolazzi and Gianni Quaranta. The event promoted by the Capri in the World Institute and supported by the MIC (Dg Cinema) and the Campania Region, which opens the season of International Awards, has the patronage of the City of Anacapri, the City of Capri, ddl Municipality of Naples, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Red Cross, SIAE and Nuovo Imaie.

The myth of Lina Wertmüller will be revived: a special award will be created in memory of the first woman ever to be nominated for an Oscar as a director, in 2019 honored with the Lifetime Achievement statuette and the Star on the Walk of Fame, and who in 1995 was among the founders, and for long years president, of the festival bridge between Italian cinema and American industry.

The initiative is intended to give an increasingly strong female connotation to the year-end kermesse that opens the international awards season.

Capri, Hollywood (Dec. 27-Jan. 2) event founded and produced by Pascal Vicedomini is promoted with the support of the Ministry of Culture (Dg Cinema and Audiovisual) and the Campania Region and the patronage of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

Matteo Garrone’s movie “Me Captain” will receive the 2023 Capri Humanitarian Award, a special acknowledgment to be presented at the 28th edition of Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival, scheduled to unfold from December 27 to January 2.

The festival is promoted by the Ministry of Culture (Film and Audiovisual Department), Campania Region, with the support of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, which has completely embraced the recognition for Garrone’s movie, announced by the Capri in the World Institute.

According to Oscar recipient Bobby Moresco, Chairman of Capri, Hollywood 2023, “Me Captain’ is well deserving of the Capri Humanitarian Award, as it incarnates an important work of art encouraging inclusion and solidarity among human beings, showing the utmost respect for individuality and cultural diversity. The movie emphasizes the importance of brotherhood and the need for developing sensitivity towards those whose existence is laden with discomfort and distress in large parts of the world, and whose struggle for a better life needs to be acknowledged and supported by the rest of the world.” The Italian-American screenwriter and director Moresco will be on the board of the festival’s 2023 edition together with Jim Sheridan, Shekhar Kapur, Michael Radford, the Italians Mimmo Calopresti, Enrico Vanzina, Oscar winners Alessandro Bertolazzi and Gianni Quaranta, Tony Renis (honorary chairperson) and singer Noa (honorary president).

“This is a new opportunity to open up to African migrants to whom we had previously dedicated the 2016 edition of Capri Hollywood,” added Pascal Vicedomini, founder and producer of the festival that traditionally paves the way to the global awards season. “And we’re pleased to warmly welcome the protagonists of a work that has touched the hearts of international audiences beyond all expectations. Unfortunately, the European Film Academy’s regulations don’t allow young actors Seydou Sarr and Moustapha Fall to be eligible for awards, despite their extraordinary performances and amazing achievements. As of 2023, we hope that the regulation will soon be amended in consideration of the new world and film realities.”
