The award intended for artistic excellence between theater and cinema was given by the board of the Capri in the World Institute “to two protagonists of the season, Mastelloni whose partnership with Patroni Griffi wrote in the 1970s and 1980s pages of theater history, and who 50 years after his debut is back on the big screen with Pupi Avati’s Dante’ – reads the motivation – and to Tommaso Ragno, a great Italian talent between stage, film, and series also international, in the extraordinary cast of Mario Martone’s Nostalgia with the unforgettable role of Malommo.”

The golden roll of the award is named after the playwright and director also Ben Gazzara, Roberto Andò, Michael Radford, Mario Martone, Massimo Ranieri, and Michele Placido. And still in the sign of Dante (in the film Mastelloni is Pope Boniface VIII), the exhibition “In Dante’s Clothes,” the latest work by costume designer Andrea Sorrentino made for Pupi Avati, opens tomorrow at the Certosa di San Giacomo. On display will be 10 of the most important costumes and hairstyles recreated both through the study of literary and iconographic sources and through creative dialogue with the director. The exhibition guides the viewer to discover, through sketches, set photos, costumes, and hairstyles, the process through which the costume designer builds to the characterization of the character, which for Sorrentino always includes makeup and hair design.

The event organized by the Capri in the World Institute is promoted with the support of the MiC (Dg Cinema), the Campania Region with the sponsorship of the Italian Red Cross, Nuovo Imaie, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

“In a decidedly delicate year,” explains producer and founder Pascal Vicedomini, “Capri Hollywood 2022 wants to propose a different formula: in fact, it will be a sober, intense, committed festival. That is why the subtitle chosen is ‘Cinema, love and solidarity.”

The screenings will all be free and will be held between the Auditorium in Capri and the Cinema Paradiso in Anacapri (70), on the Mymovies.it and Eventive.org platforms (160 digital screenings). Official opening Tuesday, Dec. 27 (4 p.m.) with the Italian Army Band Awards Ceremony, which will receive the Capri Humanitarian Award. Terry Gilliam is chairman 2022, Noa honorary chairman along with Tony Renis, among international guests Bobby Moresco and Frank Grillo (Lamborghini), Jerzy Skolimowski, and Bille August. “A career spanning 50 years, from cinema to theater: Michele Placido is an authentic pillar of Italian art in the world,” says Toni Lorusso Petruzzi, president of the Capri in the World Institute, “he is the protagonist of the season in theaters: a director with the great production ‘L’ombra di Caravaggio’ and extraordinary interpreter of ‘Orlando’ directed by Daniele Vicari. The award for masters of cinematic art given to him by our board is in addition to that already announced to director Liliana Cavani, two great personalities that we will have the pleasure of celebrating on the stage of the prestigious National Theater of Naples directed by Roberto Andò.”

In the past edition, the “Master of Cinematic Art” went to three-time Oscar winners Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo, Pupi Avati, and Toni Servillo.

Honorary presidents of the Capri in the World Institute are Tony Renis and Israeli artist Noa. Among the awards already announced: best film and best European cast to Mario Martone’s “Nostalgia” (a work nominated by Italy for an Oscar for the best foreign film), the best cast of the year to Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther – Wakanda Forever,” and the Italian-American of the Year award to actor Frank Grillo for “Lamborghini – The Man Behind The Legend” (topping the charts on U.S. digital platforms).
