Capri, Hollywood Fest to Fete Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s ‘Birdman’

Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores also was added to the list of honorees

Capri, Hollywood continues to unveil its list of honorees, announcing that Alejandro G. Inarritu’s black comedy Birdman will receive the Capri Visionary Award. The film, which premiered in Venice, is included in some Oscar prediction lists, most notably with a possible best actor nomination for Michael Keaton. His role as a washed-up action star trying to gain relevance again through a spun-out theater production has marked a career comeback for the former Batman lead.

“We are privileged to be honoring “Birdman” and the extremely talented Gabriele Salvatores at Capri this year,” said festival head Pascal Vicedomini. “They each reflect the best in contemporary films and filmmakers.”

David O. Russell will be honored with the Italian-American Icon award this year. He is expected to attend the fest with his father. And John Boorman will receive the Capri Legend Award. He’ll also teach a master class on the island.

Capri, Hollywood takes place over the New Year’s Eve holiday and is a noted stop for films on the Oscar circuit. The 19th edition of the festival will run from December 27, opening with the Italian premier of The Imitation Game, and will wrap on January 2 with Cake.
