Matteo Garrone’s “Io Capitano” was honored with 4 Capri Awards: the “Capri European Director of the Year Award 2023”, the “Capri Humanitarian Award 2023”, the “Best International Feature of the Year” and the “Capri Stars of the Future Award 2023 by Nuovo Imaie – In the name of Francesco Nuti” to celebrate Mamadou Kouassiche, who inspired Garrone’s story.
Franco Nero, iconic Italian director and actor wishes the film good luck: “Not a film but a work of art with a strong humanitarian impact”. This masterpiece is officially on the shortlist for the Oscars 2024 for the category “International Feature Film” along with other amazing movies such as “Perfect Days”(Japan), “The Mother of All Lies”(Morocco), “Society of the Snow”(Spain), “20 Days in Mariupol”(Ukraine) and “The Zone of Interest”( United Kingdom).
