L’appuntamento ha ricordato Tony Petruzzi, scomparso lo scorso agosto, storico presidente dell’Istituto Capri nel Mondo, associazione che da 31 anni promuove il festival e le attività internazionali collegate.
Nel corso della presentazione è stato richiamato anche lo storico rapporto tra Petruzzi e Lina Wertmüller, figura legata a Capri Hollywood fin dalla prima edizione del 1995.

L’Istituto Capri nel Mondo sostenne nel 2019 la campagna internazionale che accompagnò la regista italiana verso l’Oscar onorario alla carriera e la stella sulla Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Un riconoscimento alla memoria è stato inoltre dedicato a Pino Tortora, per dieci anni manager di Peppino di Capri. Il premio è stato ritirato dalla figlia Perla Tortora.
Gli ospiti sono stati accolto dall’assessore ai Grandi Eventi della Città di Capri Salvatore Ciuccio e il direttore della Certosa di San Giacomo Luca Di Franco, che hanno sottolineato il ruolo di Capri Hollywood nella destagionalizzazione turistico-culturale dell’isola e nella sua promozione internazionale.
L’iniziativa è stata realizzata in collaborazione con la Città di Capri, il Comune di Anacapri, il Ministero della Cultura e la Regione Campania. Capri Hollywood conferma quindi il posizionamento nel cartellone globale invernale e tornerà a riunire sull’isola azzurra protagonisti del cinema italiano e internazionale con proiezioni, incontri, premi ed eventi, nel periodo che tradizionalmente apre la fase più intensa della stagione dei riconoscimenti cinematografici e della corsa agli Oscar.

Vincent Riotta, Ste, and Angelo Mellone kicked off the countdown to the 31st edition of “Capri Hollywood – The International Film Festival”—scheduled to take place on the “Blue Island” from December 27, 2026, to January 2, 2027—at the Certosa di San Giacomo.
The presentation event was presided over by Anglo-Italian actor Vincent Riotta, who will serve as the chairman of Capri Hollywood 2026. Riotta comes fresh from international productions alongside Denzel Washington and Anthony Hopkins and is currently working on the Mediaset series Madre Terra – Il segreto delle origini, directed by Cinzia TH Torrini.
The event also featured a successful concert by Angelo Mellone, whose repertoire spanned Italian and international musical classics by artists such as Luigi Tenco, Gilbert Bécaud, Elvis Costello, Franco Califano, and Fred Buscaglione.

For the finale, Mellone performed a duet with singer-songwriter Ste in a tribute to Mina.
The gathering honored the memory of Tony Petruzzi—who passed away last August—the longtime president of the Istituto Capri nel Mondo (Capri in the World Institute), the association that has promoted the festival and its related international activities for 31 years.
During the presentation, the historic bond between Petruzzi and Lina Wertmüller—a figure linked to Capri Hollywood since its inaugural 1995 edition—was also highlighted.

In 2019, the Istituto Capri nel Mondo supported the international campaign that accompanied the Italian director on her journey to receiving an Honorary Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A posthumous tribute was also paid to Pino Tortora, who served as Peppino di Capri’s manager for ten years; the award was accepted by his daughter, Perla Tortora. The guests were welcomed by Salvatore Ciuccio, the City of Capri’s Councillor for Major Events, and Luca Di Franco, Director of the Certosa di San Giacomo; both highlighted the role of Capri Hollywood in extending the island’s tourism and cultural season beyond the summer months and in boosting its international profile.
The initiative was organized in collaboration with the City of Capri, the Municipality of Anacapri, the Ministry of Culture, and the Campania Region. Capri Hollywood thus reaffirms its place on the global winter events calendar, once again bringing leading figures from Italian and international cinema to the “Blue Island” for screenings, meetings, awards ceremonies, and special events—all taking place during the period that traditionally kicks off the peak of the film awards season and the race to the Oscars.

The Capri Award – Film of the Year goes to Frankenstein (Netflix) by Guillermo del Toro, a work that impressed the Board of the Capri in the World Institute for its visionary power and its ability to reinvent a great cinematic myth.

“Frankenstein is a powerful and imaginative film that shows how cinema can be both popular and deeply auteur-driven,” said Vincent Riotta, who also announced the additional honors awarded to Del Toro’s film: Capri Best Producers 2025, Capri Visionary Director 2025, Best Costumes, Best Production Design, Best Score and Best Makeup and Hair.
“These outstanding professionals helped elevate a truly special work, with a strong and original visual style capable of enhancing the film’s dramatic impact and creative flair,” Riotta added.

The Capri Award – Director of the Year goes to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another. For the same film, Leonardo DiCaprio receives the Best Actor award for an intense and charismatic performance. The season’s breakout talent, Teyana Taylor, is honored as Best Supporting Actress, “for a performance of remarkable expressive power.”
The Best Ensemble Cast award is presented to Jay Kelly by Noah Baumbach, while Adam Sandler receives the Capri Award – Best Supporting Actor.
Among actresses, Capri Hollywood 2025 honors Emma Stone for Bugonia by Yorgos Lanthimos.

The Capri Award – Best International Film of the Year goes to the new film by Jafar Panahi, submitted by France, which also wins Best Screenplay.
The Best Adapted Screenplay award is presented to Train Dreams, written by Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar, for its ability to transform a literary work into a cinematic narrative of great intensity. The film also receives the award for Best Cinematography.
The Capri Award – Animated Film goes to KPop Demon Hunters, which is also honored for Best Original Song, “Golden”.
The Capri Award – Documentary of the Year is awarded to The Perfect Neighbor, praised for the originality of its subject and its narrative strength.
Finally, Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film, A House of Dynamite, receives the awards for Best Editing and Best Sound.

With these words, Undersecretary for Culture Lucia Borgonzoni sent her congratulations to the Capri festival, currently taking place on the island until January 2, which this year celebrates the milestone of its thirtieth anniversary.

“Telling the beauty of Italy around the world in a direct language: this is the main feature of its founder, Pascal Vicedomini,” Borgonzoni stresses. “Events of this kind play a major role in promoting our country. Bringing major stars to Italy activates a virtuous circle: films are shot, people come back, some buy homes. For many artists, our locations are dream places and sources of inspiration.”

Meanwhile, encouraging signals are also arriving from movie theaters. “The success of Checco Zalone’s film was expected, but the box office numbers are really very high,” observes the Undersecretary. “This is a result that prompts us to reflect. Beyond first and second features or more niche productions, authors are asking themselves what truly interests audiences. I think everyone is pleased when their work is seen by as many viewers as possible. Zalone shows that, when the offer is there, theaters fill up.”

Borgonzoni also points out that “with the lightness that is typical of him, Zalone’s films always contain a clear message.” She adds: “Paradoxically, today it is the American blockbusters that are suffering more, once considered guaranteed box-office hits. Let us remember that the Italian market is still in a post-Covid adjustment phase, after a period in which platforms demanded large quantities of content.”

Con queste parole la sottosegretaria alla Cultura Lucia Borgonzoni ha fatto arrivare le sue congratulazioni al festival caprese, in corso sull’isola fino al 2 gennaio, che celebra quest’anno il traguardo del trentennale.

«Raccontare il bello dell’Italia nel mondo con un linguaggio diretto: questa è la caratteristica principale del suo fondatore, Pascal Vicedomini», sottolinea Borgonzoni. «Manifestazioni di questo tipo svolgono una grande opera di promozione per il nostro Paese. Portare in Italia grandi star attiva un circuito virtuoso: si girano film, c’è chi ritorna, chi acquista case. Per molti artisti le nostre località sono luoghi da sogno e di ispirazione».

Intanto arrivano segnali incoraggianti anche dalle sale cinematografiche. «Il successo del film di Checco Zalone era previsto, ma i numeri sono davvero molto alti», osserva la sottosegretaria. «È un risultato che ci invita a riflettere. Al di là delle opere prime e seconde o dei prodotti più di nicchia, gli autori si interrogano su cosa interessi davvero al pubblico. Credo che a tutti faccia piacere che la propria opera sia vista dal maggior numero possibile di spettatori. Zalone dimostra che, quando l’offerta c’è, le sale si riempiono».

Borgonzoni evidenzia inoltre come, «con la leggerezza che gli è propria, nei film di Zalone sia sempre presente anche un messaggio preciso». E aggiunge: «Paradossalmente, oggi soffrono più i blockbuster americani, un tempo considerati incassi sicuri. Ricordiamoci che il mercato italiano è ancora in una fase di assestamento post-Covid, dopo un periodo in cui le piattaforme richiedevano grandi quantità di prodotto».

A Capri, intanto, si sta preparando un tributo a Brigitte Bardot, scomparsa oggi, attrice che ha legato una parte fondamentale della sua carriera anche al film di Jean-Luc Godard Il Disprezzo, con le iconiche scene girate sull’isola. «Mi fa piacere ricordarla soprattutto come una donna libera e ribelle», conclude Borgonzoni, «che ha scelto di ritirarsi ancora giovane per mettere la sua fama al servizio di una missione per lei prioritaria: il benessere degli animali. Con il suo impegno ha raggiunto obiettivi concreti. La bellezza, per lei, è sempre stata solo un valore di contorno».
