Festival Chair Barry Morrow Will Present The Award in Memory of Shimon Peres

CAPRI (Naples) ITALY, Nov. 4, 2016 – Israeli director Amos Gitai will be presented with the Capri Art Award on December 28th during the 21st edition of Capri, Hollywood — The International Film Festival that this year will pay tribute to Shimon Peres, Israel’s last founding father who passed away in September. The announcement was made here today by the Festival producer-founder Pascal Vicedomini and Noa, the celebrated Israeli singer, who serves as president of the Festival which will be chaired by Oscar-winning screenwriter Barry Morrow.

An homage will be paid to Amos Gitai with a retrospective of his films including his latest production “Rabin,” whose opening scene features an interview with Shimon Peres, who at the time was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Rabin’s right-hand man. The movie is set against the hours preceding the demonstration where the Prime Minister – accompanied by Peres and Nobel laureate Yasser Arafat – was murdered.

“We are pleased that Gitai has accepted our invitation,” said Noa, who alongside the filmmaker, has recently joined “Save Israel. Stop the Occupation” (SISO). This initiative is supported by 500 Israeli intellectuals who on the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories (in 2017), strive to achieve a solution to the ongoing conflict between the two factions.

The 2016 edition of Capri Hollywood will revolve around the subject of “Mercy” and will celebrate Gianfranco Rosi’s movie “Fuocoammare” (Italy’s Best Foreign Language Film entry in the Oscar’s) as European Movie of the Year. The Festival is backed by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (D.G Cinema), of the Campania Region (Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage) with the City of Capri and the Municipality of Anacapri.
