Three music legends, who were also celebrated in cinema, will be in the spotlight at the 29th Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival (December 26 – January 2): Pino Daniele with the documentary “Nero a metà”, Peppino Di Capri with a preview of Cinzia TH Torrini’s film for Rai Fiction, “Champagne”, and Frank Sinatra with the documentary “Sinatra! Eternity” by Michael Oblowitz and Giorgos Papatheodorou.
The announcement was made by Tony Renis, honorary president of the festival organized by the Capri nel Mondo Institute, with the support of MiC-Dg Cinema and Campania Region, alongside Intesa Sanpaolo, Frecciarossa, Riflessi, and Givova.
“Great music has always been at the heart of Capri Hollywood, and this year it will be no different, with three moments of profound emotional impact,” said Renis, announcing the preview of the documentary “Nero a metà” by Stefano Senardi and Marco Spagnoli, set to premiere in theaters on January 4, 5, and 6 with Eagle Pictures. The release marks the tenth anniversary of Pino Daniele’s death (who would have turned 70 in 2025).
Tony Esposito and James Senese will also join Spagnoli to share anecdotes about the documentary, which takes its name from the famous 1980 album (recently re-released).
In tribute to the legendary Peppino Di Capri, the first images from Cinzia Th Torrini’s film “Champagne” will be presented. The movie explores the life of the former Capri street urchin who began his career at the age of four, enchanting American soldiers stationed on the island with his piano playing. In the Rai Fiction-O’ Groove co-production, Francesco del Gaudio stars as the singer (now 85 years old) and will be honored during the festival alongside the director, fresh from her recent Netflix success “Sei nell’anima,” dedicated to Gianna Nannini.
Finally, the program includes a special screening of the film “Sinatra! Eternity,” which depicts the tumultuous relationship between 35-year-old Frank Sinatra and the ultimate diva of the time, Ava Gardner. The story unfolds through an interview with Frank (played by Italian-American Rico Simonini, a highly successful doctor with a compelling artistic flair) conducted by journalist and biographer Bob Nelson (Michael Madsen).
Capri, Hollywood 2024, which will focus on the theme of diversity, has already announced the Best Cast award for “Emilia Pérez” by Jacques Audiard (starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz), a film which has triumphed at the EFA Awards. Moreover, the Cult Award will be presented to Johnny Depp‘s “Modì”, and the Visionary Award to “Eterno Visionario”, a movie by Michele Placido about Pirandello.
