(EN) “Heart and mind — in a word, passion. The secret of Capri Hollywood’s thirty years has been bringing together what used to be considered the most ‘pop’ side of entertainment with important content and reflections: two sides of the same coin.”
With these words, Undersecretary for Culture Lucia Borgonzoni sent her congratulations to the Capri festival, currently taking place on the island until January 2, which this year celebrates the milestone of its thirtieth anniversary.
“Telling the beauty of Italy around the world in a direct language: this is the main feature of its founder, Pascal Vicedomini,” Borgonzoni stresses. “Events of this kind play a major role in promoting our country. Bringing major stars to Italy activates a virtuous circle: films are shot, people come back, some buy homes. For many artists, our locations are dream places and sources of inspiration.”
Meanwhile, encouraging signals are also arriving from movie theaters. “The success of Checco Zalone’s film was expected, but the box office numbers are really very high,” observes the Undersecretary. “This is a result that prompts us to reflect. Beyond first and second features or more niche productions, authors are asking themselves what truly interests audiences. I think everyone is pleased when their work is seen by as many viewers as possible. Zalone shows that, when the offer is there, theaters fill up.”
Borgonzoni also points out that “with the lightness that is typical of him, Zalone’s films always contain a clear message.” She adds: “Paradoxically, today it is the American blockbusters that are suffering more, once considered guaranteed box-office hits. Let us remember that the Italian market is still in a post-Covid adjustment phase, after a period in which platforms demanded large quantities of content.”
In Capri, meanwhile, a tribute is being prepared to Brigitte Bardot, who passed away today, an actress who tied a fundamental part of her career to Jean-Luc Godard’s film Contempt, with its iconic scenes shot on the island. “I am pleased to remember her above all as a free and rebellious woman,” Borgonzoni concludes, “who chose to retire while still young in order to put her fame at the service of a mission she considered a priority: the welfare of animals. Through her commitment she achieved concrete results. Beauty, for her, was always just a secondary value.”

Con queste parole la sottosegretaria alla Cultura Lucia Borgonzoni ha fatto arrivare le sue congratulazioni al festival caprese, in corso sull’isola fino al 2 gennaio, che celebra quest’anno il traguardo del trentennale.
«Raccontare il bello dell’Italia nel mondo con un linguaggio diretto: questa è la caratteristica principale del suo fondatore, Pascal Vicedomini», sottolinea Borgonzoni. «Manifestazioni di questo tipo svolgono una grande opera di promozione per il nostro Paese. Portare in Italia grandi star attiva un circuito virtuoso: si girano film, c’è chi ritorna, chi acquista case. Per molti artisti le nostre località sono luoghi da sogno e di ispirazione».
Intanto arrivano segnali incoraggianti anche dalle sale cinematografiche. «Il successo del film di Checco Zalone era previsto, ma i numeri sono davvero molto alti», osserva la sottosegretaria. «È un risultato che ci invita a riflettere. Al di là delle opere prime e seconde o dei prodotti più di nicchia, gli autori si interrogano su cosa interessi davvero al pubblico. Credo che a tutti faccia piacere che la propria opera sia vista dal maggior numero possibile di spettatori. Zalone dimostra che, quando l’offerta c’è, le sale si riempiono».
Borgonzoni evidenzia inoltre come, «con la leggerezza che gli è propria, nei film di Zalone sia sempre presente anche un messaggio preciso». E aggiunge: «Paradossalmente, oggi soffrono più i blockbuster americani, un tempo considerati incassi sicuri. Ricordiamoci che il mercato italiano è ancora in una fase di assestamento post-Covid, dopo un periodo in cui le piattaforme richiedevano grandi quantità di prodotto».
A Capri, intanto, si sta preparando un tributo a Brigitte Bardot, scomparsa oggi, attrice che ha legato una parte fondamentale della sua carriera anche al film di Jean-Luc Godard Il Disprezzo, con le iconiche scene girate sull’isola. «Mi fa piacere ricordarla soprattutto come una donna libera e ribelle», conclude Borgonzoni, «che ha scelto di ritirarsi ancora giovane per mettere la sua fama al servizio di una missione per lei prioritaria: il benessere degli animali. Con il suo impegno ha raggiunto obiettivi concreti. La bellezza, per lei, è sempre stata solo un valore di contorno».
