Matteo Garrone’s “Io capitano” gets the best international feature at Capri Hollywood Festival.
Matteo Garrone was honored with the “Capri Europen Director of the Year Award 2023” in Capri on December 27 during the Grand Opening Gala of the 28th Annual “Capri Hollywood – The International Film Festival 2023”. He directed the movie “Me Captain” (Io capitano) which was also honored with the “Capri Humanitarian Award”. On December 11 “Me Captain” was officially nominated to the Golden Globes 2024 in the category “Best Picture Non-English Language”. The movie, produced by Archimede and Rai Cinema, and internationally distributed by Pathé Film, will be competing with “Anatomy of a Fall” (France), “Fallen Leaves” (Finland), “Past Lives” (USA), “Society of the Snow” (Spain) and “The Zone of Interest” (UK – USA).
“Me Captain” was previously honored at “Venice Film Festival 2023” (Silver Lion – Best Director Matteo Garrone), also featuring Issaka Sawagodo, Hichem Yacoubi, Doodou Sagna, Khady Sy, Venus Gueye, Cheick Oumar Diaw, Bamar Kane. The film was inspired by the true stories of emigration from Africa to Europe by Kouassi Pli Adama Mamadou, Arnaud Zohin, Amara Fofana, Brhane Tareke, and Siaka Doumbia. “Me Captain” by Italian director Matteo Garrone is now officially on the shortlist for the Oscars 2024.
