The announcement was made here today by Lina Wertmuller, honorary president of the Capri in the World Institute, the Festival’s presenting organization, and Festival producer-founder Pascal Vicedomini.
Following on the heels of its December 25th release in America, Vice will be distributed in Italy by the Leone Film Group beginning January 3rd. The film explores the story of Dick Cheney, a bureaucratic Washington insider, who quietly wielded immense power as vice president to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today. It also stars Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Tyler Perry, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe and Jesse Plemons. Producers are Megan Ellison, Will Ferrell, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Adam McKay, Kevin J. Messick and Brad Pitt.
“A timely film from a first-class filmmaker and with a stellar cast, Vice is the perfect film to kick off our Festival,” said Wertmuller and Vicedomini. “We sincerely thank Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and the Leone Film Group for making this exciting awards contender available to us as our opening night attraction.”
The Festival’s 23rd edition, which takes place here from December 26, 2018 to January 2, 2019, will be chaired by the American director and screenwriter Lee Daniels, a 2010 Oscar® nominee for Precious.
It has previously been announced that on December 30, Eli Roth will be named “Master of Fantasy” for his latest film The House with a Clock in Its Walls starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett and that Matteo Garrone’s Dogman will be honored as European Movie of the Year.
The annual film event, supported by Mibact and the Campania Region, will once again welcome globally renowned filmmakers and movie stars to the Gulf of Naples alongside comparable Italian artists. The Festival, which traditionally precedes and paves the way to the finale of the U.S. awards season, is presented in collaboration with the City of Capri and the Municipality of Anacapri, as well as several private sponsors.
